The Sylvia Theater
York, SC
(opening for Kevn Kinney)
9/10
First off, I can’t begin to explain what this night was like for me. To be able to share the stage w/ someone who has inspired me as much as Kevn has was truely an honor in itself. This night was such an amazing night for me that I can barely put to words how surreal it was for me!
First off, I was so nervous before soundcheck that I thought I’d never make it to the stage. Well, after soundcheck and a nice, calming conversation with Kevn, I knew everything would be alright! Once 9pm hit, there were about 60 people or so there and I was ready to go. I was a lil nervous but with some coffee in my blood and my Dollar Tree gift bag from Kevn, I opened w/ Weather Worn Highways and it just took off from there. I felt that my performance was strong but a lil sloppy. I fubbed a few notes here and there but over all, I was happy with the set and happy with the reaction I got from the people. I was just so in heaven this night and you couldn’t have ripped the smile off of my face!
Put it There wasn’t one of my best versions but ending w/ Stormy Day made up for it. Many friends were there: Bert, Tim & Robin, Tyler, “Concord” Zac and his posse, Gina, and my good friend Matt and his fiance even drove from Birmingham for the show. The inspiration level there was so high and I was just on top of the world. And the people who had never heard me, they were so attentive and receptive of my material that I really felt like I had made it! Now I’m REALLY on the right road!
After my set, I walked backstage. Kevn just looked at me and said, “Great set Don de Leaumont!”. Hmmm, I guess that’s all that I really needed to hear! And the rest of the night are the nights I have dreamed of many a times!
