Smith’s Olde Bar (Atlanta Room)
It seems like forever and a day since I last updated my ol’ gig journal. Well, since my last entry, I have moved from being solo to being in an amazing band called Collins Drive. We had our debut show on June 21st and while it was a good start, things just didn’t click the way we had hoped. After making a change and recruiting our new guitarist Darrell everything just seemed to fall in to place. Our first gig with Darrell was a great time and I felt like the show went extremely well. There were the occasional nervous flubs but aside from that, I felt like the band was really solid. The audience wasn’t as big as the debut but the crowd that we did have was very responsive and seemed to really enjoy it.
The band we played with was pretty good this night but they were one of these young college bands who pretty much brought a whole shit ton of people but none of them checked us out at all. I just will never get that kind of mentality but hey, it is what it is.
At the end of it all, I felt so great about how everything went. In a lot of ways, I almost feel like THIS show was our debut. The interaction with each other on stage was very natural and it just felt really good. It also helped that we had a great sound guy this night running things and everything sounded just great. It was such a better overall experience than it was the first time that, again, I almost feel that the first gig was a dress rehearsal and this one was the true debut in my mind. I can’t wait to see what 2015 will hold for us!
